Because Jail SUCKS!
Being arrested is a difficult and frightening experience to go through. However, an arrest can seem much worse at first than it turns out to be in the long run. With the help of a bail bond, arrested individuals can quickly be released from jail so that they can begin building their legal defense.
If you've been arrested or need to help a family member get out of jail, you may be able to quickly secure a bail bond by providing the following six pieces of information to a bail bondsman in your area.
1. The Basic Information of the Arrested Individual
The bail bondsman will need to know basic identification details for the individual who is being bailed out of jail. These details include not only the name of the arrested individual but also his or her address.
Informing the bail bondsman of the name of the arrested individual isn't just important for going through the bail process. The name is also important for personalizing the service that the bail bondsman can provide.
At some point, the bail bondsman will be in contact with the arrested individual and will need to explain some aspects of the bail bond procedure. This is easier if the bail bondsman can address the arrested individual by name.
2. The Location of the Arrested Individual
Bail bondsmen are aware of what police stations and jails are located in their area. They need to know the location of the arrested individual in order to get in touch with the facility that is holding the person and finalize the bail agreement with that facility.
If you're looking for a bail bond for yourself or a loved one, make sure you know the official name and location of the facility handling the arrest.
3. The Booking Number Associated with the Arrest
A booking number is always assigned to an arrest. This booking number is important because it is a further means of identifying the arrested individual and his or her case.
Without a booking number, mistakes could be made with arrested individuals who have similar names. The booking number ensures that the bondsman posts bail for the right individual.
4. The Charges Against the Arrested Individual
Bail regulations differ depending on the charge that the arrested individual is being held on.
Generally speaking, bail amounts for felony charges are going to be higher than bail amounts for misdemeanor or traffic ticket charges. For some charges, bail is not allowed and the arrested person will have to stay in jail.
The charges will need to be discussed with the bail bondsman in order to make sure that the arrested individual is eligible and to determine what the bondsman's fee will be based on the charges.
5. The Bail Amount
An arrested individual should be informed of what the bail amount is when he or she is charged. The bail bondsman will need to know what this bail amount is. The bail bond fee is typically a percentage of the bail amount, so the bondsman will need to know the bail amount in order to determine his or her fee.
6. The Available Collateral
In some cases, an arrested individual pays the bail bond fee upfront. However, if the arrested individual does not have the money to cover this fee amount, the arrested individual may need to have the bondsman's fee financed.
If this is the case, the bondsman is going to need to know what type of collateral is available or what the employment status of the arrested individual is.
